Runner Up at the Whitewater Columbus Day Tournament!!
(October 12, 2008)

As the sun was setting on a beautiful fall evening in Wilkes Barre, the Valley Galaxy were fighting as hard as they could against a very strong United Soccer Training Academy team. The game ended as the sun settled behind the mountains with USTA getting the best of our girls but, for the fourth straight tournament, the Valley Galaxy came home with hardware taking second place at the Whitewater Columbus Day tournament this past weekend.
The day consisted of the Galaxy playing three tough games. The girls were being put into unfamiliar positions on the field throughout the day getting experience and working together as a team to get the job done. The girls looked great all day, passing the ball and constantly pushing deeper into the opposing teams end. All three games saw outstanding defensive plays by the Galaxy defensive team of Morgan Rynn, Hannah Long, Megan Ritting and Regan McComb, with the girls talking and helping cover openings to quickly move the ball up the field. Once out of the Galaxy's defensive end, the midfielders consisting of, Hayley Martin, Allison Ritting, Megan Wismer, Victoria Hunt and Rio Hontz, took over with outstanding ball control and sharp passes deeper into the opponents end. Once deep into the other teams end the Galaxy's offense of Casey Brown, Sam Ryan, and Allegra Jackson put on a relentless show of force move the ball around with the Galaxy eventually finding the back of the net several times. In all three games several of the girls had great scoring opportunities, taking multiple shots and following up strong on any rebounds. Thanks to the strong efforts of the entire team, the Galaxy goalies had a relatively easy task the first two games facing very few shots. In the final game against USTA, Grace Lingenfelter and Jenna Wismer shared the responsibility of defending the net and each making several outstanding plays to help keep the score close.
The Galaxy have played in four tournaments this season taking first place in one and second place in the other three. The first half of the girls regular season play also found them with a strong 2-2-1 record. The girls are looking forward to starting the second half of their fall season with five more games between now and Thanksgiving. Go Galaxy!!
Runner Up at Deep Run Labor Day Tournament!!
(August 30-31, 2008)

The quote of the weekend came from several different coaches as they each met with the Galaxy separately saying, "Valley Galaxy is the team to beat this weekend". With a first and second place finishes already in their two earlier tournaments this summer, and returning to Deep Run as the defending runner-ups from last years Labor Day tournament, the other teams were looking at the Valley Galaxy as tough competition, and the Galaxy did not disappoint.
The girls came out strong in their first game on Saturday against the Whitpain Pumas winning the game 3-1. As all of the games over the weekend would eventually turn out to be, this was an aggressive game with girls drawing several fouls allowing Jenna Wismer and Allegra Jackson to each score on penalty kicks, while Grace Lingenfelter added a third goal off a pass from Samantha Ryan. The second game on Saturday was a very close 2-1 match against the Buckingham Storm. A hard fought battle in front of the Buckingham goal with Payton Keyser and Samantha Ryan never giving up on the ball eventually lead to the Storm scoring an own-goal giving the Galaxy a 1-0 lead. Later in the game Payton Keyser scored the Galaxy's second goal off a series of centering passes putting the Galaxy ahead for the second, and final, time of the game.
Sunday morning came around and the Galaxy had another strong 3-1 showing against the Palisades Strikers. This game showcased the Galaxy's talents at passing and placement of the ball. With midfield wingers, Allison Ritting, Rio Hontz, and Megan Ritting repeatedly driving the ball hard up the field and finishing off their runs with strong forward and centering passes toward the front of Palisades' net.. Jenna Wismer and Allegra Jackson each scored off of Passes from Payton Keyser. On an aggressive push up the field by Victoria Hunt Morgan Rynn took the pass and fired a hard shot into the back of the net for the Galaxy's third goal of the game. The Galaxy's final game on Sunday turned out to possibly be the showcase game of the weekend with parents, family, other teams and fans lined up three deep on the sideline to watch the Galaxy take on the Deep Run Hot Shots, and it was a game that did not disappoint. The teams fought and battled for 60 minutes to a 0-0 tie with all of the Galaxy players giving dominant performances throughout the entire game. The Galaxy's defensive team of Hannah Long, Hailey Case, and Regan McComb, were tireless, while Morgan Rynn, as sweeper, ran down Deep Run girl after girl stopping them repeatedly before they were able to get a shot off. The shots they did get off were handled easily by Galaxy goalies Grace Lingenfelter and Jenna Wismer. After the 60 minute regulation game. The clock ran through two additional 5 minute sudden death overtime periods with the teams still deadlocked at 0-0 and unfortunately leaving the game up to penalty kicks where the Deep Run Hot Shots got the best of the Galaxy giving our girls second place for the second year in a row.
